The Black Swan, on Church Street in Ashover, is set to launch their new restaurant tomorrow (Friday, May 3).
Stephen’s at The Black Swan will open its doors after a revamp of the empty upstairs space – a major milestone after the venue’s new landlords, David and Dean Murphy, arrived back in February.
David added: “Our head chef has been with us since the offset. That’s where the name comes from, Stephen’s at the Black Swan - our head chef’s name is Stephen Cameron-Stephens. He’s a very good chef, he’s worked at Figaro and the Hunloke Arms in Wingerworth, and Bottle and Thyme in Chesterfield town centre - he knows what he’s doing.” Photo: Brian Eyre
David said: “It’s an opportunity to showcase his food, and to make more of the space and make it a destination pub for food. It will be a different menu upstairs, with more pub food downstairs.” Photo: Brian Eyre
David said: “We’ve had all the chairs re-covered and painted the room. We’ve got a lovely focal piece with the wallpaper. We've tried to tie in the name of the village - which derives from ‘Essovre‘, or beyond the ash trees. You’ve got the big ash tree just down the road from the pub. The pub is 300 years old, and years and years ago, you would have lots more trees and stags wandering through those. There’s a massive stag mural on the wallpaper and we’ve got some stag antler light fixtures throughout the room.” Photo: Brian Eyre
