Davies suffered from a niggling hamstring injury last season but still made 30 appearances for Wanderers, scoring seven goals.

But Neil Lennon, who had aired concerns over the striker’s hamstring injuries, decided against offering the 29-year-old a new deal.

Chesterfield were rumoured to be interested in bringing Davies back to the Proact Stadium last summer where he had previously enjoyed success and his release from Bolton has got people talking once more.

He scored 23 goals in 41 starts for the Spireites under John Sheridan during the 2010/11 campaign, which saw them promoted from League Two.

Chesterfield’s new manager Dean Saunders is in the market for attacking reinforcements, so would a move for Davies be beneficial?

Meanwhile Saunders has offered contracts to Jimmy Ryan, Drew Talbot and Armand Gnanduillet and has released Charlie Dawes and Jack Broadhead CLICK HERE
