Police have issued an update on an incident that forced officers to shut a busy Chesterfield town centre road this morning.

Earlier this morning, traffic monitoring site Inrix confirmed that Brewery Street in Chesterfield town centre was closed in both directions – with a ‘police incident’ along the route.

At 6.41am, Stagecoach East Midlands said that their 77 service was unable to serve any stops between Brimington Crematorium and Cavendish Street due to the incident – and reported that this was still the case at 8.45am.

The route is open again, and Derbyshire Police said that concerns for the safety of a man forced officers to close off the street.

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a concern for safety of a man in Brewery Street at around 6.15am. The man was not hurt and the road reopened just after 6.30am.”
